SMALL GROUP PROJECTS
Trio
The unique sound of the Pavel Wlosok Trio is an intoxicating blend of jazz traditions including swing, modal, and Latin jazz, along with influences of contemporary twentieth & twenty-first century music, World music, and Czech folk music. Most of the repertoire is based on original compositions, exciting new arrangements of jazz standards, as well as traditional styles of modern jazz ranging from the pre-swing era, through swing and cool jazz, to be-bop, modal, and beyond.
Pavel’s favorite trio musicians have appeared on his most recent CD releases, including drummers
John Riley (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra), Ed Soph (Woody Herman & Stan Kenton Big Bands), Bill Campbell (Kurt Rosenwinkel, Norah Jones, Barney McCall), Geoff Clapp (Charlie Hunter trio), and Jason Marsalis (Marsalis brothers), bassists Mike McGuirk (John Aebercrombie, Marc Copland, Eddie Henderson), Steve Haines (Branford Marsalis, Jimmy Cobb), Mike Holstein (Bill Gerhardt, Joe Locke, Tim Horner), Zack Page (Billy Higgins, Eddie Daniels), Adam Thomas (David Fathead Newman, Joey DeFrancesco), and Eliot Wadopian (Grammy winner with Paul Winter Consort). While performing in Europe each summer his favorite rhythm section players include drummers Marian Sevcik, Eric Vaughn, Lukasz Zyta, Jiri Slavicek, Tomas Hobzek and bassists Tomas Baros, Robert Balzar, Adam Kowalewski, Josef Feco, Graza Adamczak, and Mira Honzak.

Quartet & Quintet
In addition to his trio appearances, Pavel often invites World-class soloists to cooperate on new music premieres of his quartet/quintet CD album releases. Most notable musicians who have performed and/or recorded with the Pavel Wlosok Trio in the most recent years have been saxophonists Rick Margitza, Bob Sheppard, Donny McCaslin, Joel Frahm, John Ellis, Ondrej Stveracek, Karel Ruzicka Jr., guitarists Paul Bollenback, Chris Beyt, and David Doruzka, trumpeters Randy Brecker, Ingrid Jensen, Jon Faddis, Bill Warfield, John Raymond, vocalists Sheila Jordan and Carly Johnson, and percussionist Byron Hedgepeth. The music performed often features compositions of both Pavel’s and his guest artists/soloists' in addition to modern standard repertoire arrangements and re-harmonizations.

INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS

Solo
Pavel is an experienced solo jazz piano performer having worked extensively for up to five hours a day and four to five days a week during his late teens and early twenties at several local venues on both sides of the Czech and Polish border where he grew up. His classical musical training in both composition and piano performance combined with his knowledge of jazz and its historical styles has rendered him an original and unique sound, which has been appreciated for many years now by his avid listeners and fans.
This personal effort has culminated in creation of his very first solo jazz piano album (pending release later in 2017 on New Port Line label) entitled “
Respectfully Yours”. It is in this album where Pavel pays homage to his hero jazz composers and performers of the past including the music of Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Benny Golson, Wayne Shorter, and Chick Corea. You can listen to a preview of all fourteen tracks from this upcoming release on his YOUTUBE channel.

Duet
Pavel has collaborated with various artists and singers over the years and performed many times in a duet format. He is an experienced accompanist/improviser, instructor, and skilled sight-reader of all kinds of music, be it standard classical sheet music, lead sheet music, or church oriented hymns and gospel. Take a closer listen to some of Pavel’s duet performances featuring an outstanding alto saxophone soloist and improviser Jacob Duncan, who is a member of the Phillip Glass Ensemble. These duet performances are available on his YOUTUBE channel.

Composition
Pavel is a contemporary composer and his chamber music has been performed on three Continents and in Japan. His favorite mediums to compose for are marimba, vibraphone, string quartet, brass quintet, and various wind instrument duet combinations. You will be able to purchase his sheet music in the
Buy Sheet Music section of this website (CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION, patience please).

LARGE ENSEMBLE PROJECTS

Big Band & Nonet
Pavel’s six original big band compositions have been recorded by the famous One O’clock Lab Band from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX in the late 1990s on Lab ’98, Lab ’99 and Lab 2000 CD albums. His 1999 composition “Reflections Suite” in three parts has won him the
International Association of Jazz Educators Gil Evans Jazz Arranging and Composition Award. Pavel’s original big band music often features challenging arrangements with advanced harmonies and requires a professional quality musicianship.
In 2018, Pavel has visited an Ivy League school Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and performed with
Bill Warfield's Nonet, which featured some of Pavel's originals arranged by Bill for this group. A pending further cooperation including a new album recording is in the works, so stay tuned!

CLASSICAL CHAMBER PROJECTS

Classical Meets Jazz
Andrea Adamcova - classical piano, Pavel Wlosok - jazz piano
Classical Meets Jazz series was founded around early 2000 by Andrea Adamcova and Pavel Wlosok, both native pianists of the Czech Republic. The purpose of these recitals is to present public with two different styles of music which have shared historic paths during the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Not only high schools and universities, but also community audiences can benefit from this concept, since these recitals also often include short lectures about each piece presented.
In the classical portion, Andrea performs primarily twentieth-century compositions, but she also enjoys Baroque and Impressionism periods. She concentrates mainly on lesser known compositions and specializes in music of Czech and Polish composers. Her performances hav
e included works by Chick Corea, Lubos Fiser, Alberto Ginastera, Leos Janáček, Bohuslav Martinu, and Robert Muczynski. In the jazz portion of the concert, Pavel focuses on the straight ahead main-stream as well as his own original jazz composition. He also enjoys playing jazz standards of Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Billy Strayhorn, Victor Young, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and many more ranging from the period of early 1930s to the present.
Classical Meets Jazz has performed in Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, and the Czech Republic. Both performers are inspired and experienced musicians with international credentials.
